What is the Resurrection Stone?
In the first part of Deathly Hallows, the story of Three Brothers reveals what the Deathly Hallows are and what powers they possess.
The three brothers, all wizards, were traveling when they encountered a river with no bridge, so the trio used their magic powers to create a bridge and cross the river.
However, the trio were not supposed to survive the river crossing, as Death immediately appeared before them.
Angry at being crossed by humans, Death pretended to give each brother a gift, which would eventually kill them.
But Death was fooled again, as the brothers were clever in using the gifts they were given, called “Deathly Hallows”.
Deathly Hallows are the Cloak of Invisibility, the Resurrection Stone and the Elder Wand, all of them had tremendous magical power that no other wizard could ever achieve.
Before the Resurrection Stone was in Harry Potter’s possession, its previous owners were Tom Riddle and Albus Dumbledore.
Tom Riddle didn’t realize he had the powerful Deathly Hallows in his hands because it was passed on to him in a form of the ring.
After Professor Slughorn’s lesson, Tom Riddle discovered that it is technically possible to split your soul into several material objects called Horcruxes.
Tom enjoyed the power of the dark side of magic and turned his ring (with the resurrection stone) into one Horcrux.
Why did Harry Potter drop the Resurrection Stone?
Harry made it his philosophy of life to avenge his family and friends he lost along the way by encountering Lord Voldemort in a final battle.
Before Harry Potter looked at him, Harry Potter tracked down six Horcruxes into which Tom Riddle had split his soul, to destroy them and make Voldemort as weak as possible.
One of these Horcruxes was the Resurrection Stone.
In the last part of the novel chronicle, Harry Potter walked through the Forbidden Forest, carrying the Resurrection Stone.
Just before the final battle, Harry used the stone to summon his parents, friends, Remus Lupine and Sirius Black, who all appeared and gave him all the strength he needed (and made us all cry).
His family’s presence seemed to be just what he needed, as he immediately dropped the Resurrection Stone and faced Voldemort in the final battle.
Harry deliberately dropped the resurrection stone in the woods and never went looking for it, wishing no one would ever find it and use its powers.
