BharatPe MD Ashneer Grover wants ₹4000 cr to leave the company he co-founded

Ashneer Grover, who was recently seen on Shark Tank India, has been caught up in controversy. Here’s what he said in a recent interview.

Ashneer Grover, MD, and co-founder of BharatPe has been in the news for all the wrong reasons. His memes have also flooded the internet. The reason behind the same is that last month Ashneer Grover fell into controversy after an audiotape of him was released allegedly threatening and abusing an employee of Kotak Mahindra Bank. However, Grover claimed that the audio tape is fake and that a scammer is trying to extort money. But later, he eventually deleted the tweet. Ashneer is currently being sued by Kotak Mahindra Bank for using “inappropriate words” against one of their employees. Grover also appeared in Shark Tank India, Sony TV’s reality show that gives budding entrepreneurs a chance to pitch their ideas and get investments.

Grover’s position in his own company is up for debate. Following this, Grover said in a recent interview that he will only leave BharatPe if an investor buys his 9.5 percent stake at a company value of $6 billion. He spoke to Money Control. “What did I do to resign? This is like execution for the trial. I am the MD (general manager). I run the business. If the board thinks I don’t need to be an MD and someone else should run the company, put my 4,000 crore on the table and take the key from me,” Grover said. The interview further stated that he wanted investors to buy him out at fair market value or he would continue to run the company. When BharatPe raised $370 million from Tiger Global, Coatue and other investors last year, BharatPe was valued at $3 billion.

Ashneer Grover took a voluntary leave of absence until the end of March after hearing the alleged audio. Even Madhuri Grover, Grover’s wife, reportedly took a leave of absence last week. Although, as mentioned above, the co-founder of BharatPe was last seen as one of the sharks in Sony TV’s Shark Tank India reality show. In addition to him, and People Group founder Anupam Mittal, Sugar Cosmetics co-founder and CEO Vineeta Singh, boAt co-founder and CMO Aman Gupta, Lenskart co-founder and CEO Peyush Bansal, Emcure Pharmaceuticals executive director Namita Thapar and MamaEarth co-founder Ghazal Alagh were featured on the show.
