Meta, Formerly Facebook, Investigates Sheryl Sandberg on Asset Use – WSJ

Lawyers investigate use of company assets by Sheryl Sandberg, Meta Platforms Inc.’s head of outbound operations.

Lawyers are investigating meta Platforms Inc’s outgoing head of operations Sheryl Sandberg’s use of company assets over several years, the Wall Street Journal reported on Friday, citing people familiar with the case. Meta used to be called Facebook.

Several employees have been interviewed in connection with the investigation by Facebook parent Meta, the WSJ reported, adding that the investigation has been underway at least since last fall.

Meta and Sandberg did not immediately respond to Reuters’ requests for comment.

Among the activities under scrutiny is the work of Meta employees in support of Sandberg’s foundation, Lean In, and for writing and promoting her second book, “Option B: Facing Adversity, Building Resilience, and Finding Joy,” the report added.

Earlier in June, Sandberg, whose close partnership with Chief Executive Officer Mark Zuckerberg has fueled the growth of the world’s largest social network, announced her departure from the company after 14 years.

Chief Growth Officer Javier Olivan will take over as Chief Operating Officer, although Zuckerberg said he had no intention of replacing Sandberg’s role directly within the company’s existing structure.

Sandberg said she will remain on Meta’s board after she leaves the company in the fall.
