Microsoft will roll out support for Windows 11 Android apps through a public preview next month. It will contain some updates.

Microsoft will finally introduce Windows 11 Android apps through a public preview next month. The Windows 11 preview also includes some updates and improvements to the taskbar, redesigned Notepad and Media Player apps. Windows chief Panos Panay has mentioned the upcoming changes to Windows 11 in one of his blog to post. As of now, these features are currently available on the Insider Program Dev Channel, but will be available to all Windows 11 users soon. He wrote: “Today we are excited to share that the upgrade offer to Windows 11 is entering its final phase of availability, putting us ahead of our original mid-2021 plan.” He also said that the updated Windows 11 will also have a simpler window sharing feature and bring it back to the taskbar.

The Android app support for Windows 11 gives users access to various shopping and gaming apps such as Amazon and Epic Games from the Microsoft Store.

The Windows 11 taskbar improvements include a mute and unmute function. The taskbar will also likely display a clock on secondary monitors. Both of these features were missing at the launch of Windows 11, but Microsoft is working on improving the taskbar by bringing back missing functionality like drag and drop.

With the upcoming Windows 11 upgrade, the weather widget will also return to the taskbar. Microsoft is also redesigning its Notepad and Media Player apps. Both include dark modes and design tweaks similar to Windows 11.

Meanwhile, this isn’t the first preview of Android apps running on Windows 11. Microsoft also previously rolled out a preview of a select group of Android apps that run on Windows 11, just after the operating system’s launch in October 2021. At that time, only members of the Window Insider program were able to access a limited number of apps from Amazon’s Install and open the App Store.
