What Is Patricia Richardson From Home Improvement Doing Now?

If you’re a fan of sitcoms, you’ve probably heard of Patricia Richardson, one of the most famous actresses of the last century.

Patricia Richardson as Jill Taylor.

Starring “Jill Taylor” in the famous sitcom “Home Improvement”, Patricia rose to fame rapidly in the 90s.

However, all that fame and her time-consuming job slowly took their toll. Being a single divorced parent, all the work was just too much for her, and she decided she would take a break from acting even though she was at the peak of her career.

She often says that her decision to leave the show was one of the best decisions she’s ever made since she had more time to spend with her family.

Although she decided to retire from the industry, Patricia made a few more debuts in a few more TV shows before leaving the acting business entirely.

Her work on home improvement

Patricia’s role in “Home Improvement” is arguably one of the most iconic mother portraits in sitcom history.

Her no-nonsense type of humor was a perfect match for her fictional husband Tim’s doltish approach to life.

For eight seasons, Patricia delivered brilliant one-liners in her famous straight-face style, always managing to outsmart her man.

Interestingly enough, Patricia Richardson was actually the last-minute replacement for Frances Fisher on the show. In addition, she was also 3 months postpartum.

Richardson was later nominated a total of four times for the Emmy Award and twice for the Golden Globe.

She also had the honor of hosting the Emmys with Ellen Degeneres while doing her work on the show at the same time.

What happened to Patricia after improving the house?

After Patricia decided she wouldn’t do another season of “Home Improvement,” she slowly began to retire from the acting industry. We say slow because she was still in a few series before fully retiring.

Nearly 10 years after the hit sitcom series, she got the chance to replace Janine Turner in the lifelong medical drama series “Strong Medicine” as a new character, Dr. Andy Campbell in 2002.

She received two nominees for the Prism Award for her role in Strong Medicine.

After three seasons on the show, she was cast as the campaign manager for Republican presidential candidate Arnold Vinick in the popular political drama “The West Wing.”

Over the years, Patricia made a few more guest appearances in multiple movies and TV shows, but never anything she thought would be too time-consuming.

What is Patricia Richardson doing these days?

Given how unusual it is for actresses to leave the industry to devote themselves to their families, Patricia is one of the few who stands out in this regard.

Today, Patricia is enjoying her well-deserved retirement, spending most of her time with her family and her new grandchild.

She is also deeply involved in actor rights activism and is a spokesperson for Cure PSP (a non-profit organization for research into prime life brain diseases).

In 2019, Patricia was also named president of SAG-AFTRA, a local branch in LA.
