Cruella De Vil, one of the most iconic fictional villains ever, was created in 1956.
Most of us know Cruella from the film adaptation of the 90’s novel ‘101 Dalmatians’, in which she was played by the one and only Glenn Close.
Cruella De Vil is a supervillain from the 1956 novel “101 Dalmatians” written by Dodie Smith.
Dodie’s Cruella De Vil isn’t that bad when we get the picture from the Disney animations and movies.
However, her name is certainly made of two very bad words: “cruel” and “devil” (De Vil).
By the way, she’s a young fashion designer who’s in love with fur coats – her husband makes coats for a living, so it makes sense.
Don’t take this as an excuse for her behavior later, though!
Nothing can justify her cruel, greedy desire to create a perfect puppy fur coat.
Over the years and in various animations and films, Cruella De Vil has become a symbol of vanity and self-loathing.
Most Iconic Cruella De Vil Quotes About Dogs
Here are some of the most popular quotes the murderous Cruella has said about puppies:
First place has to go to this vicious quote “If I’d known it was that cold, honey, I’d have grabbed two more puppies and made mittens.”
Second place in our opinion should go to the popular scene where Cruella says “Dogs! Can you imagine such a thing?”, after she did just that.
And finally, the third most iconic quote about dogs Cruella said is: “Fifteen. Fifteen puppies! No spots! No spots at all! What a hideous little white rat!”
After giving you three best Cruella quotes about dogs, it’s pretty easy to conclude that she’s mean!
Who best portrays Cruella?
From 1961 to 2021, six films (both animated and non-animated) have told us the story of Cruella De Vil.
The most popular film adaptation of the novel “101 Dalmatians” is the 1996 film of the same name, starring Hugh Laurie, Jeff Daniels and Glenn Close.
If we compare Glenn Close’s portrayal of this evil character, she gives by far the most evil portrayal of Cruella, the mad lady who wants to make a spotted fur coat.
The latest 2021 film “Cruella” tells the story of Cruella De Vil (played by Emma Stone) as a young girl Estella who dreams of becoming a famous fashion designer.
After a difficult childhood as an orphan forced to live on the streets, Estella is able to work all her emotions of anger and resentment into her fashion creations, such as dresses and jackets.
This film has been very well received by critics as it shows a different aspect of Cruella’s life.
But even though I love Emma Stone in whatever role she’s in, whether she’s bad or great, in my personal opinion, no one will ever beat Glenn Close’s evil Cruella laugh!
